Help
Get started
- Install Bannerbird from the Shopify App Store. It opens on Home, with a health check.
- If the health check says Turn on the app embed, click it. Your theme editor opens with Bannerbird switched on; click Save. You only do this once per theme.
- Click Create bar, choose free-shipping, countdown or announcement, and pick a template.
- Edit the wording and design. The preview shows exactly what shoppers will see.
- Click Publish. The bar shows on your store a few seconds later.
My bar isn't showing
Start with Home's health check: it lists most problems and links to the fix. If it's all green, check these:
- Is the bar live? Drafts and paused bars don't show. Its status is on Home.
- Is it scheduled? A bar with a start or end date only shows between them, in your store's time zone.
- Who is it for? Targeting by device, page, country, customer or traffic source hides it from everyone else. Check you're looking as someone it targets.
- Did you close it? Once a shopper closes a bar, it stays closed in their browser. Look in a private window.
- Is there room? On Free, 2 bars can be live and 1 shows at the top; on Pro, 2 show at the top. When more bars fit a page, the highest on your Home list wins.
- Has the countdown ended? An ended countdown hides, shows its "ended" message, or hands over to the bar you chose.
- Is it on your live theme? The app embed is switched on per theme. If you change themes, turn it on in the new one.
Bars on product pages, the cart and the cart drawer
Bars at the top or bottom of the page need only the app embed. A bar inside a page needs the Bannerbird bar block in your theme:
- Product and cart pages. Choose the place in the bar's editor, then use the health check's Add the block link. It opens the theme editor with the block added; drag it where you want it and click Save.
- Cart drawer. Bannerbird finds the drawer by itself in themes built on Dawn or Horizon, Impulse, Motion and many others. If yours doesn't show it, add the Bannerbird bar block to the drawer in the theme editor and set it to Cart drawer.
Free-shipping goals
- The bar updates as shoppers add to or change their cart, without reloading the page. The progress line appears once something is in the cart.
- You choose whether the goal counts the cart total after discounts or the subtotal before them. Items that don't ship, like gift cards, can be left out.
- Your goal is in your store's currency. Shoppers who pay in another currency see it converted at Shopify's rate. On Pro you can set a different goal per country, add more than one goal (for example, free shipping, then a free gift), and leave out products by collection or tag.
Countdown timers
- Fixed: counts down to a date and time in your store's time zone.
- Daily or weekly (Pro): for example, "order by 2 pm for same-day dispatch", skipping the dates you list, like holidays.
- Per visitor (Pro): each shopper gets their own countdown from their first visit. Only use it for offers that really end for that shopper; fake urgency loses trust and can break consumer law.
- When a countdown ends, it can hide, show a message, or hand over to another bar.
Pinned and stacked bars
Turn on Keep it visible while scrolling to pin a top bar to the top of the screen. If your theme pins its header too, the header moves down to sit under your bar. On Pro, two bars can stack at the top; the higher one on your Home list goes first.
A/B tests (Pro)
Give a bar a version B with different wording, button, link, code, design or placement. Shoppers are split half and half and keep seeing the same version. The goal amount and end time stay the same in both, so every shopper gets the same offer. Bannerbird names a winner once each version has 500 views and the difference is clear (95% confidence). Then choose Use B or Keep A.
Stats
- Stats count views, clicks, closes and reached free-shipping goals for each bar. Free shows the last 7 days; Pro shows your full history and lets you pick the period.
- Orders after seeing a bar (Pro) counts orders, and their value, from shoppers who saw a bar in the 7 days before buying. It only counts shoppers who allowed analytics in your cookie banner, so it's a lower bound. It shows a bar was seen before the order, not that it caused it.
- Stats are recorded on both plans, so if you upgrade, the history is already there.
Speed and your theme
Bannerbird never edits your theme files: it uses Shopify's app embed and theme blocks, so switching it off leaves your theme exactly as it was. The bar script is about 9 KB compressed, and bars are shown from data saved in your store, without waiting on our server. Top bars appear with the page, so the page doesn't jump down when they load.
Plans and billing
- Change plans on the app's Plan page. Pro is $4.99 a month or $48 a year, with a 14-day free trial (one per store), billed by Shopify on your Shopify invoice. If you cancel during the trial and come back, you get the days you hadn't used.
- If you go back to Free, your bars are kept. The 2 highest live bars keep showing, without their Pro settings; turn Pro back on and everything returns.
Uninstalling
Bars stop showing as soon as you uninstall, and your theme is left unchanged. If you reinstall within 48 hours, your bars come back. After that, Shopify asks us to delete your store's data, and we do. See the privacy policy.
Contact us
Email support@bannerbird.bar with your store's address (your-store.myshopify.com), which bar it's about, and a screenshot if you can. A person, not a bot, replies within 3 business days, on every plan.
If a bar is breaking your store, put "Urgent" in the subject. To hide it straight away, pause the bar in Bannerbird, or switch off the app embed in your theme editor.
